I picked up a canvas for $10 from the Eco Store, and my beloved has gessoed it and hung it up. (I'm not sure if that is so it is less likely to get knocked over and damaged there, or to remind us to do something with it....)
We each took turns doodling on a piece of scrap paper. It was such fun, that we did it again. Now we are trying to decide which sketch to use....
Exhibit A
Exhibit B
Hmm. . . . I think I like A a little better, because of the flowers. Guess I would have to see more of the decor in the room though for the final judgement. I like the topsy-turvy-ness of the first one.
ReplyDeleteGo with Exhibit B. There are so many things you can do with the background...
ReplyDeleteOoo . . . a difficult choice! My first choice was exhibit B, but then when I pictured them blown up to a large size, I was leaning toward exhibit A. It would be interesting to know the color scheme. Don't think you can go wrong!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking rich, warm jewel tones, like burgundy, hunter green, plus for some reason I want some textured yellow for the background. But I haven't really thought about colors yet, other than sophisticated and something that won't clash with our dark red sofas....
DeleteI think I like A the best but I think they both have the potential to be interesting!
ReplyDeleteOr, I suppose, we could follow Dr. M's idea and just title it "Blizzard in Bemidji"
ReplyDeleteExhibit A! I like that diagonal line, and the contrast between the squares and the curvy flower stems. And you could use lots of colors like Kandinsky. (Secret: I love Kandinsky's paintings!)
ReplyDeleteI had to look up Kandinsky, of course. Fascinating stuff! I wasn't planning on going quite that wild with color, but perhaps I should be more bold....
DeleteThis project is getting steadily more interesting as it gets more collaborative...
Though I like both sketches and think either would look great painted and hanging on a wall, my vote is for Exhibit A. I like the swirly flower idea in the corner!
ReplyDeleteWhile I like the flowers in Exhibit A, I think Exhibit B appeals more to me. Probably the symmetry of it. I think I would forever be turning my head sideways trying to resolve A into circuits or something.
ReplyDeleteI like A best. I don't know why! ~ Mom
ReplyDeleteThis is very subjective, but here's my two cents! I like the flowers in A, but overall I like B the best. While I don't like the cradled circles in the main part of B, the mosaic squares on the far right side are awesome!

This is my favorite reply so far--everything you've liked have been my contributions to each of the two sketches! ;)
DeleteYou should try this with Doug sometime and see what you come up with.... I have a hunch he would favor straight lines and angles, like my husband.
I say A....that was my initial first impression :)
ReplyDeleteI like Exhibit A because it's at an angle, which makes it more interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteFirst impression was Exhibit A.... I like the flowers
ReplyDeleteI agree about like exhibit A because of the angle...
ReplyDeleteI think A is the better of the two, probably because it's more complete in the sketches, but it is a triple mix of cubey, baroque, and 60's psychedelic, none of which really jive with each other. Maybe a background of a solid color with elements of itself in each section would help tie them together. I know, everyone's an art critic. I actually used to be pretty good at analyzing flat media back in the 70's, at least according to my art prof.
ReplyDeleteSee--yes! That's just what I was thinking. They don't jive together. I suppose you are right that we could pull them together with color... And yet Exhibit A is still winning the popularity contest, hands down.
DeleteI'm starting to wonder if we need a third sketch!
p.s. Was not aware that your blog times are PST? You must be on the west coast.
ReplyDeleteI spend a lot of time lost, actually! (That's kind of endearing, right? I'm thinking of someone we both know and love who is also directionally challenged....)
DeleteYour comment inspired me to dig around in my settings, and low and behold--time zones :) They should be fixed now, I hope.
Not a fan of the bubblies on the left of B. It does, however, look very New York. A has more of a Cheap-Lord-of-the-Rings-Spinoff happily married with Sci-Fi look. A is definitely more J. Pario. B is more Guggenheim.

I like A the best. I think it shows both of your personalities better and will complement the other six pieces that you already have on the side wall. The strong rectangles and your soft waves will pull both sets of art together, as there is a similar theme. I don't see B working with the other six pieces as well.
ReplyDeleteI like Exhibit A the best. The combination of the angles with the circles in the corner is very interesting and appealing. It seems much more engaging than Exhibit B.
