Don't Throw Away.... Used Christmas Cards!

I will happily take your Christmas cards off of your hands and use them to make art!

I use them to make Christmas ornaments:

I learned how to make them from this YouTube video, although I cut out the circles with a paper punch, not the tool used in the video.

Then I use the leftover bits for mosaics:
A Guardian Angel for a baby's room.  Of all the artwork I've done, this is one of my favorites.
If you are new to the blog, here is where I wrote about the Angel Mosaic.

This box stores my postcards and this post tells about how I made it.
So you see, I won't waste them!

Angel Mosaic Given at Last

Today the Magician and I gave the Angel Mosaic picture to the expectant parents.  They really seemed to like it (and it will match the nursery!), which is a really nice feeling.  Just a few more weeks.....

Angel Mosaic Done!

Snow Day Today!

And what did I make in my studio?

I finished the angel mosaic:

I'm really pleased with how it came out.  Now I just need to afix something wherein I can hang it on the wall and it is ready to give the expectant parents.

To see how I did it, step-by-step, check out my tutorial on one of my favorite websites, Cut Out + Keep.

Angel Mosaic Progress

I did some work on this while waiting for Mom to come over to play in the studio.  The torso looks really shiny but that is because it is still wet with Modge Podge.

I

I still don't know what I am going to do for the face....

Mosaic Angel

Something else I did a little work on this evening was this a baby shower present.  It's made from an ugly thrift store painting that I gessoed over and cut up and used Christmas cards left over from an ornament-making project. (So I'm recycling my leftovers from recycling!)  The pieces are applied with Modge Podge.

This is going to take more or less forever, but I'm currently fascinated with mosaic and this is my first attempt to make an image.  I love the idea of separate bits that alone seem not worth saving but come together to make something beautiful.
