Garden Visit from Ann S.

My lovely friend Ann is thinking about starting a garden next year, so she came over to tour mine.  It was a delightful visit!  What gardener doesn't want to prattle on endlessly about her planting and plans?

Ann helped us harvest.  This photo is from earlier, but it includes some of what we are harvesting these days.... tomatoes, purple beans, basil, chives, thyme, okra, chamomile, and oregano.

I need to let Ann know two more things that I forgot to tell her (despite talking at her for almost two hours!).  One is to get the garden fenced and the beds dug and enclosed this fall.  The other is to save these, since she wants to grow tomatoes:

The one on the right is for planting seedlings (with holes punched in the bottom for drainage).  It is smaller so that the seeds get the heat from a heating pad placed underneath.  The one on the left is for tomatoes after they have enough leaves and no longer need the heating pad. The milk carton is where they will grow until they are transplanted.  Next year's garden is going to be MUCH bigger now that we have a freezer. :)

Hope everyone is having a bountiful harvest!  We've topped 100 pounds of tomatoes already this year, but keep in mind that that is from 12 plants.

Happy Anniversary, Fr. W.!

One year ago today, one of my favorite students was ordained!

Here I am kneeling, after having received his blessing.

(His other claim to fame is that he helped me name this blog....)

Congratulations!

Lately....

I took Arwen to her very first circus, at the kind invitation of our Goddaughter Isabel's parents.  We both had an excellent time!

Belovedest and I played board games with my sister Rachel. Lots of fun!

A really close game...

Auntie M. had a lovely birthday tea.  It's becoming a tradition of elegance that I very much look forward to.

What I've been up to lately....

I've been working on Grandma Rose's obituary.  For work I often write or edit text that multiple people have conflicting edits on, so I'm very much on home turf.

We've started arguing about planning the new garden shed.

Here's a nice snap from a recent visit to our dear friend Anne M.

We also visited my dad's grandmother on that trip.

And finally: a great triumph!

I finished a novel for my sister Rachel!

(I'm pretty sure it has been at least 5 years...)

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Since my last Round Up I have....

..... started my new job.  (Love it!)

.... wiped out on my roller skates.  (The only safety gear I omitted was, you guessed: elbow pads.)

... watched my husband release a squirrel in the park.  (Hopefully the one that has been eating our pumpkins.)

... been in an earthquake.  (Very small.)

... started biking to work.  (Flat tire on the 1st day.  Lots of rain.)

.... entertained some dear friends.

.... went shopping at a costume shop that was going out of business.  (Lots of fun!)

Weekly Round Up

I did some sewing at my friend Carla F's a few weeks ago, working on Mom's run.

Her amazing daughter Mary showed me some of her artwork, which you can buy on T-shirts and other items here.

For my birthday, we enjoyed the Red/White Husker Volleyball team scrimmage.  I'd never been before, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Finally, here are some photos that my friend Sarah took before the tea party.  Such pretty girls!
