Quotables: On Travel

Often I feel I go to some distant region of the world to be reminded of who I really am… Stripped of your ordinary surroundings, your friends, your daily routines, your refrigerator full of your food, your closet full of your clothes, you are forced into direct experience.  Such direct experience inevitably makes you aware of who it is that is having the experience.  That’s not always comfortable, but it is always invigorating.

Thinking of Erasmus

If I have money I buy books.  If I have any left over, I buy food and clothes.
--Erasmus

I'm thinking of good ol' Erasmus today.  I have time to go to either the library or the grocery store, but not both.  I've opted for the library....

Weekly Round Up

A couple of weeks are being "rounded up" all at once here.....

While the ladies had a tea party….

… the gentlemen watched the kiddos.  Thanks, Ann, for a lovely Sunday afternoon!

I started drying some herbs and rose petals.  This is not the correct, official, typical way to dry these herbs.  But this is the way I have time for!  We’ll see how it works.

... I took my first pottery class.  I'm in love!  It was so much fun!

Cleaning Ephemera

ephemera: items designed to be useful or important for only a short time, especially pamphlets, notices, tickets, etc.

I found this when cleaning and I haven't the daftest idea what it is.

A map of.....?  Plans for....?
I saved it so it must be important.....

Any ideas, clever and creative readers?

Quotables: Art

Everyone discusses my art and pretends to understand, as if it were necessary to understand, when it is simply necessary to love.
-- Claude Monet

Whenever I think of Monet, I think of my Mom.  In 2013 my sister Rachel and I took my mom to Europe.  One of the top items on her list was to see Monet's garden at Giverny, outside of Paris.  We spent a lovely morning amid his flowers, and Mom said the whole trip was worth it just for that experience.  Love you, Mom!  (Rachel, you're pretty awesome, too!)
