Quilts from the County Fair

My mom has always wanted to make one of these, so when I see one, I think of her.
It's amazingly 3-D, isn't it?

County Fair Flashback

A demonstration of hand-quilting.  (As for me, never going to happen!  I don't even have the patience for machine quilting!)

This kind quilter is finishing the quilt after the original quilter died. I think it is neat that the quilt will be finished.

Sunday Thoughts

Note to self:

Stop trying to earn God’s love.

You have it already.  Love beyond your wildest dreams.

You should not keep God’s laws and seek to do good because you are begging for His love, or trying to win an A+ in the game of life.

Keeping His laws and seeking to do good is simply responding to His love.  It’s how you love Him back.  It’s part of your relationship.

Yes, doing those things are to your benefit, and no, you don’t get to stop just because you don’t feel loving some days.  But striving to please God in order to deserve His love is silly.  You’ll never deserve love so amazing.  So instead rejoice in the miracle that that love is yours already.

Weekly Round Up

I did some sewing at my friend Carla F's a few weeks ago, working on Mom's run.

Her amazing daughter Mary showed me some of her artwork, which you can buy on T-shirts and other items here.

For my birthday, we enjoyed the Red/White Husker Volleyball team scrimmage.  I'd never been before, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Finally, here are some photos that my friend Sarah took before the tea party.  Such pretty girls!

Fringe and Tassel--Going Out of Business Sale

It's all over on Saturday!

Fringe and Tassel, Lincoln's most famous costume shop, is going out of business and they are selling all of their costumes.  They are open from 11am-5:30pm, and 10-2 (or sold out) on Saturday.

We had great fun shopping, although nothing is priced and so all sales are negotiated.  Most of the clothing is well worn, so check it carefully.  I enjoyed browsing, and of course, I had to try a few things on....

Tomatoes!

Yesterday, we added our very first bag of blanched, skinless tomatoes to the freezer, where it will wait for either:
1. enough tomatoes to join it until we have no room in the freezer and have to can
or
2. we'll thaw it months from now and get a taste of summer in December.

I wish I had taken a picture of this tomato when it was still orange because it looked just like a pumpkin.

Virtual Quilt Show

This is a series on quilts displayed at the Lancaster County Fair.  I'm going to do one a day until I run out of quilts :)

The top quilt is by Pat Kant and the bottom is by Rebecka Schafer.
Some close-ups of Pat's quilt.  So cute!

4-H Fun: Clothes

The fashion design part of 4-H was always my favorite.  Well, not the actual sewing.  Just the design and modeling parts.

Here are some fun clothes made by 4-H members, all from the county fair a few weeks ago.

Now what is the name of that artist?  This dress has some cool swirls inspired by him:
This dress is actually made of patchwork.  I've always wanted to try that.  I presume that you just sew patchwork shapes to match the pattern pieces.  It would be a ton of work to do it so carefully that the pieces lay flat.

 This just looks like fun.
Grandma Vlasta made Czech dresses like these for Mom and her sisters to do Czech dancing in, and also made matching dresses for their dolls.

Hope you are enjoying the fair photos!

County Fair Fun

This year might be over, but maybe some pix will persuade you to go next year...

Fun with fairy gardens!
Mom said she didn't realize that the type of plant actually bloomed.
I think these are melted tools.  So cool!

It is difficult to capture without a video, but this lovely llama was positively preening for the camera!  She seemly to think her neck was a particularly fine one, and she was flirtatiously tossing her head--seriously!

Made from Thrift Store Sweaters

I snapped these photos at the county fair a month ago.  While the fair is long over, these beautiful quilts will be giving people joy for years to come.

Happy Birthday to Me!

A fun little treat: a 90+ Chinese woman at the farmer's market wrote "Happy Birthday, Jennifer" in Chinese for me.
